This Bali Activity is ensured to create the perfect evening entertainment.

Bali Nusa Dua Theatre is a 700 Seat located in the BTDC area of Nusa Dua. It features state of the art lighting and visual equipment as well as a huge stage to showcase its main performance “DEVDAN SHOW”. The Theatre opened its doors in June 2011. How to get DEVDAN SHOW?

From hotels within Nusa Dua BTDC complex and Tanjung Benoa, there are complimentary shuttle busses every 15 minutes to the Sogo Shopping Center and The Bay. Just take one of the complimentary busses, and the theater is simply within 3 -5 minutes walk.

From Kuta, Legian, Seminyak, Sanur, Jimbaran, Uluwatu, simply call the theater to arrange for a taxi/transport.  Most transports from and to this area is free, when you buy category A tickets.

CULTURE PERFORMANCE OF BALI

The show scene starts with Bali, which is symbolized by an Udeng, a boy’s headband which is used as a cultural and religion identity.  

Every Balinese temple and shrine has a dedicated date for its annual ceremony, aka “Odalan”. This ceremony is truly colorful. The shrine are dressed with brocade, woodcarvings, salangs, and gold coins. And, the villagers will march in a colorful costumes, and  the females will carry offerings on top of their heads, arrangement of all kinds of fruits, colored cakes to the Temple. And, the males will bring umbul-umbul, and take part in this festival by flying kites competition.

On this scene, we will also witness Balinese villager life that is so close to nature and farming. They will prepare penjor and offerings. The villagers will grind paddies using a Lesung. And, during harvest 
time, the villagers will carry Goddess of Uma thanking for this year harvest.

CULTURE PERFORMANCE OF SUMATRA

Sumatra villagers are mainly Moslem; and, they have a dedicated dance and singing performance, named SAMAN, after a Syekh Saman name who lives in XIV century. Saman functions as a preaching moments for honorable manner, heroism, and unity. The lyrics and poems are in both Arabic and local (Gayo)) language. This Saman dance was sung slowly at the beginning, and gradually become extreme rapid to the end. Certainly, this Saman performance is acknowledged as an intangible element of Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage Of Humanity by UNESCO

Aside from Saman, Sumatra is famous of its traditional dances which use Pecut (whip) as a traditional tool to whip the animals (cows and horses).

Sumatra is also famous for its  Songket weaving cloth. Since 7^th century, Songket clothes has become a precious items during Sriwijaya time in Palembang. The word Songket originates from Sungkit, that is a Malay word for weaving. All Songkets are manually made mostly by Sumatran women. Many Indians and Arabs are trading Sumatra Songket throughout the world; while Chinese has become the main suppliers of Songket materials to Sumatra villagers. Songket was once a precious and luxury clothes, and worn only by Sumatran aristocrat.

Back to today’s world, Indonesia government has now patented some intricate Songket motives as part of National Indonesia Products that is widely available in Indonesia, such as Bali, Nusa Tenggara and Sulawesi.

A Rain dance in Sumatra symbolize the villagers who pray to God for rains onto their drought land.

CULTURE PERFORMANCE OF JAVA

A trademark of Javanese villagers are the ownership of Keris. Keris is a Javanese weapon since the kingdom era throughout Indonesia. Aside from being used as a weapon, Keris is the villagers identity symbol to show the social status, macho, and spiritual/magical power. Keris is part of Indonesia Cultural Heritage that is protected by UNESCO.

Aside from Keris, a Joglo house is also identical with Javanese culture. A Joglo is a Javanese wooden house, which is built heavily based on the local’s philosophy. The show will depicts Javanese villagers from aristocrat, to Javanese soldiers and common villagers.

A shadow puppet is part of Javanese culture that is part of Masterpiece of Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO. The show will depicts the mysticism and power of shadow puppet master by making few human dancers disappear when entering the shadow puppet screen.

CULTURE PERFORMANCE OF KALIMANTAN

Indonesia longest and biggest river is in Kalimantan. Thus, the villagers of Kalimantan has closely made their life and cultures evolve around this river. Back in 13^th century, a Kutai Karatanegara kingdom is one of the biggest kingdom in Kalimantan. The villagers back them were heavily using ship on the rivers as their main transportation, fishing points, floating markets, and harbors. Till today, the rivers are still one of the most important transportation infrastructure used in Kalimantan.

Kalimantan is famous for its Dayak tribe and its dances. Dayak tribes wear the famous Enggang bird feather. Enggang is an eagle bird natives of Kalimantan, that is close to extinction.

CULTURE PERFORMANCE OF PAPUA

On this last scene, we will see a typical Papuan house, called Honai. This house has a cone shape roof which is made from dried hays. Some of the highlands in Papua is actually snowing, thus, this Honai will help them throughout the winter season.

Papuan is also known for wearing a Koteka. It is a male penis wear, that is made from certain dried plantation. The word “Koteka” actually means “clothes”.
